Today, the City of Monroe proudly joins communities across Michigan, across the nation, and around the world for Sharing the Spirit of America. This once-in-a-generation commemoration recognizes the 250th anniversary of the first public reading of the Declaration of Independence on July 8, 1776.

From Philadelphia to communities in Hawaii, Antarctica, Africa, and beyond, thousands of people will gather to read the words that helped shape our nation. And today, Monroe is one of them.

Join us downtown for Hometown Heritage: Monroe's America 250 Celebration as we honor our nation's past while celebrating our future. Enjoy family-friendly activities, live music, food trucks, the City Market, a public reading of the Declaration of Independence, and an unforgettable drone show at dusk.

We hope you'll be part of this historic moment.

This week has been especially hard on our community. We’re continuing to pray for everyone affected by the widespread power outages, those who have fallen ill, those impacted by the extreme heat, and all those carrying silent prayer requests. Our hearts are heavy, and we’re holding our community close in prayer. 💚
