Support local. I'm definitely getting a burger!!!
It's National Burger Day and here are some of my favorite local places I've tried that will hit the spot if you are feeling burgerish today!
Beef N Bunns has a great burger, it's peppery and it's flame broiled at the end for a smoky flavor. I usually get the classic beefer sub american cheese. They have a gluten free bun if you ask for it, too. Always juicy and open late daily to 11pm.
PerrysBurgers be prepared to wait, it's a small kitchen but the wait is worth it. I got the slow jam which comes with tomato jam, carmelized onions, white cheddar and more. They also have endless fries (get the tarragon truffle parm if you are adventurous)
Burger Hub is doing the classic smash, crispy edges very thin burgers. This is the type of burger you want to get a double patty with, trust me. I think they are the only ones in the Toledo area with the laciest burger edges.
Berger's Olde Tyme They have the handcut fries to go with the burger! I love their French Onion burger only on Fridays, so if you can wait til then that's my fav one. It's like French Onion Soup meets a burger. These are the thicker type of burgers, and their fries remind me of Cedar Point fries.
Moe's Place I said it once I'll say it again, my favorite smashburger and at only 8.49 you can't beat that. It's a greasy big bar burger with a peppadew aioli. Hits every time.
Mason Jar Tap & Grill Their That's My Jam burger is a favorite of mine as well when I want a thicker burger. It's sweet and savory, it's oniony with a bacon jam. They serve the food with garlic parm fries, but don't sleep on their appetizers which are all made from scratch.
Frogtown Johnnie's is for the spicy lover at a kind of dimly lit bar. Get their inferno burger. Jalepenos and ghost pepper cheese and a special heated inferno sauce. Also they have the handcut fries here too. Whipped feta dip is a great appetizer too.
Hannon's Block Restaurant is if you are looking for a fancy burger. A burger that doesn't miss. The chef worked at Au Cheval in Chicago and if you know about that place, then you know what level this burger is on. I also highly recommend getting the dressed avocado, last time I had this burger I thought next time I'll put some of those slices of avocado on my burger. Homemade aioli too.
Fire Wings Market has a burger for the big guy. It's....stacked. The Texas BBQ Burger is almost half a foot high with onion rings and mozz sticks on it. It's a very fun burger to try. I also think they have some of the best wings in the city and you can order as few as 6 wings and get some wings as a side.
Bris Munchie Machine this is the foodtruck with the smashburger you need to try. It's big as a saucer and you can get it Flying Dutchman style where the bun is a grilled onion. Fantastic. She pops up from time to time so check her page to see when (she's actually open today the 28th she sells out fast so get there early)
The Joint at Bier Stube has a burger called the Whoa Black Betty. It's sweet with ricotta cheese, spicy jalepenos, bacon, and a blackberry haze sauce. It's one of the more unique burger flavor combos in the Toledo area.
Honorable Bernie Travel mention:
Crave Burgers in Dearborn is one of the best places I've ever had a burger. Phenomenal flavor and they grind the meat in house. Also has handcut fries.
Smash Jibarito in Humboldt Park area of Chicago. The bun is made out of smashed and fried plantains so this is gluten free!
Gretel Logan Square neighborhood Chicago. A simple burger but done perfectly. I love the black and white sesame bun. Also, the fries are what shoestring should be. Incredibly thin and crispy.
Basement Burger Bar this is in Canton Michigan kind of down the street from Ikea. Skip the meatballs and head here. It is one of the most personalized menu from bun to burger to toppings. You get a fun little menu with a marker and you pick what you want. The wagyu burger was fantastic and juicy, and make sure to get the sweet potato fries with their homemade brown sugar sauce.
Burger it up, but burger it up local
