We're excited to welcome Ms. Kessler to the Berkeley Middle School family! Join us in giving her a warm welcome as we begin another great year of learning, growth, and success.
The Berkeley Standard: Stronger Together. Better Every Day.
" My name is Mrs. Kessler, and I am thrilled to be teaching 6th Grade Math at Berkeley Middle School this year!
This year marks her 17th year in education, and she have spent her entire teaching career working with 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students. Throughout her career, she has been committed to continually growing as an educator so she can provide the best learning experiences for her students.
She holds endorsements in Gifted and Talented Education, STEAM Education, and the South Carolina Read to Succeed Literacy Endorsement. In addition to teaching, she has had the privilege of serving as a mentor teacher for first-year educators, a South Carolina Certified Evaluator, a Berkeley County School District Personalized Learning Explorer, and a BCSD Math Teacher Leader. Ms. Kessler has also contributed to the development of our districtβs Gifted and Talented curriculum resources, including work on district pacing guides and the Curriculum Hub. Most recently, she was honored to receive two grants to support innovative STEAM projects.
One of the favorite members of her classroom is her class pet, Rocky, a five-year-old bearded dragon who loves βlearningβ right alongside the students! He enjoys greeting students each day and is always a fun part of our classroom community.
When she's not at school, youβll often find her running, cycling, reading a good book, or entertaining one of her kids or pets! Ms. Kessler has a 6th grader and an 8th grader at BMS, 2 huskies, 2 bearded dragons, a gecko, and a snake! She enjoys challenging herself with new goals and love bringing that same growth mindset into my classroom.
What excites her the most about this school year is helping students become confident problem solvers who believe in themselves as mathematicians. She want every student to see that math is much more than numbersβit is a way of thinking that connects to science, technology, engineering, everyday decision-making, and the world around us. Her goal is to create a classroom where students feel safe to ask questions, persevere through challenges, think critically, and celebrate their growth. She canβt wait to learn alongside my students and make this an incredible year filled with curiosity, collaboration, and success.
By the end of the year, youβll probably hear many of her students affectionately refer to her as βMrs. Frizzle with a calculator!β I believe learning should be filled with curiosity, creativity, exploration, and plenty of funβand she canβt wait to share that adventure with her students this year! π"
