Welcome to Modesto Judo Club.
Before we begin, I want to explain our training philosophy. Your goal today is not to win practice—your goal is to learn. We want good technique, control, and respect for your training partners. Many new students, especially athletes from wrestling, football, BJJ, or other sports, come in with a competitive mindset. We appreciate that, but this is a learning environment, not a competition.
Most of our training should be done at a moderate pace. Think about 50–70% intensity. We want you working hard enough to learn, but controlled enough to think, make adjustments, and keep your training partners safe. Save the all-out effort for competition preparation and special training sessions.
Please take care of your training partners at all times. If they tap, stop immediately. If you're unsure of a technique, slow down and ask. Safety is our top priority. If you injure your training partner, neither of you can train.
The best students are not always the strongest or most aggressive. The best students are coachable, controlled, technical, and respectful. Be the training partner that everyone wants to work with, and you'll improve quickly.
Relax, have fun, learn something new, and help us create a safe environment where everyone can improve and come back healthy tomorrow.
