Grief.

This word is spoken as if it’s something tangible—something that can be boiled down to simple explanations with steps along the way, as if it’s some f**ked-up 12-step program. But it’s not. It isn’t a linear process, nor do these steps single themselves out like a series of switches. It is an experience that will drag you through the full spectrum of human emotion, only to spit you out again years later, back at zero.

Death is something we all experience, yet we often sweep it under the rug and avert our eyes until our time comes—almost as if speaking of it will summon it upon ourselves or our loved ones.

This record was written at the height of that process, over the last six years, after losing my father to cancer. It is an analysis of life and death and their permanent entanglement. This process has fundamentally changed who I am, from the first demos until now, and not a single day goes by where I don’t think of him or the profound impact he had on my life.
