Animal Control Officer Darrian Young succumbed to injuries sustained, when her patrol truck was struck by a drunk driver at the intersection of South Custer Road and South Raisinville Road.
She was driving on South Raisinville Road at approximately when the drunk driver ran a red light and struck her vehicle on the driver's side. She was transported to a local hospital where she passed away.
The driver who caused the collision was arrested and was arraigned on charges of second-degree murder and operating while intoxicated causing death and reckless driving causing death. The driver was sentenced to 17 to 30 years in prison.
Animal Control Officer Young had served with the Monroe County Sheriff's Office for one year and held a Special Deputy commission. She is survived by her fiance, mother and stepfather, father and stepmother, sister, step-siblings, and grandparents.

Police Officer Chateri Payne was shot and killed while outside of a home.
She was preparing to report for duty and was wearing her full uniform when she was shot multiple times as she entered her vehicle. Her boyfriend and two accomplices were later arrested and charged with second-degree murder. The boyfriend was found guilty and sentenced to life in prison without the benefit of probation, parole, or suspension of sentence in connection with second-degree murder. He was also sentenced to 30 years for conspiracy to commit second-degree murder.
Officer Payne is remembered today for her service and dedication, she had graduated from the police academy only three months before her death. She was survived by her daughter and mother.

Sergeant Grant Candies was killed by the driver fleeing a traffic stop on Interstate 10 in Slidell near the Oak Harbor exit.
The driver was driving recklessly without a tag on the car when a deputy attempted to stop the vehicle on Brownswitch Road. When the driver refused to stop and continued to drive at speeds of 85-90 mph while swerving on the roads, a pursuit ensued. Just after midnight, Sergeant Candies was deploying a spike strip to assist with stopping the vehicle pursuit when he was struck and killed by the suspects.
The suspects, all juveniles, continued to evade St.
Tammany Parish deputies on Interstate 10 into Orleans Parish, where their vehicle crashed into a New Orleans Police Department unit near Crowder Boulevard at approximately 12:30 a.m. All suspects were apprehended, and the driver was charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, and aggravated flight. Two other juveniles have been charged with second-degree murder and manslaughter.
The New Orleans Police Department officer in the unit struck by the suspects was injured but was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and released from the hospital.
Sergeant Candies was a United States Marine Corps veteran and had served with the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office for nine years. In 2023, he saved two lives and was named St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office Deputy of the Year. He is survived by his wife, two children, mother, father, three sisters, and a brother.

NYPD officer Colin Rossiter, 22, who shot dead armed man in Coney Island and later killed himself at home.
The NYPD cop who took his life just months after he was involved in the fatal shooting of a gunman. Rossiter was found by his father, a retired NYPD sergeant, and taken to hospital but pronounced dead on arrival.
NYPD Police Officer Steven Hernandez took his own life also. Moments before the tragic incident, the distraught officer had just left a mandated appointment at a department psychiatrist office in the NYPD Medical Division, which was located within the same building complex. He had recently made a series of posts on social media pleading for help with the mental health issues that he had been battling. "Please help me. Please love me.
Please care for me. Please listen to me..." was one of those posts.
He was only appointed to the job in October 2021 and worked in the 60th Precinct, which includes Coney Island, Brighton Beach, West Brighton Beach, and Sea Gate.
Rossiter's relatives, fellow officers and other well-wishers gathered outside Staten Island University North Hospital to pay their respects as Rossiter's body was removed. He was the third NYPD officer to die by su***de.
