University. Along with maintaining his professional career in education, Barry has served as minister of music at various churches throughout the years. He was also a part of the Gospel Four, a gospel group that included his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Chopper and Lois Stevenson; his wife Kathy; and various other musicians. While in the Gospel Four (the original name even though there were more than four members), Barry wrote several songs that were recorded by the group. Additionally, Dr. Amacker is the author of three books, These Old Shoes, Power to Press On and Clink. As a band director, he was honored as Middle School Teacher of the Year for the Mobile County School District and in 2018 he was named Superintendent of the Year in 2018 for the state of Mississippi, and represented Mississippi in the National Superintendent of the Year Gala.
