Fresh, local, and loved at Just Food Co-op in Northfield, MN!
We had a great conversation with Dillon, the Produce Manager at Just Food Co-op, about how our mushrooms are doing on their shelves—and we’re excited to share what he had to say!
With over 30 years of experience in the grocery world (and more than 15 working with wholesale), Dillon knows produce—and he’s seen mushroom sales steadily grow in popularity.
🛒 Best Sellers at Just Food?
“Shiitake and white button mushrooms are always strong sellers here in the Midwest,” Dillon shared. “With our committed member base and the local college crowd, we see steady demand.”
🌱 What Makes a Great Mushroom Supplier?
Freshness, reliability, and local sourcing are what we look for. More co-ops are now turning to local growers—like us—rather than going through wholesalers, which means fresher mushrooms and a closer connection to the community.
📈 Trends in Mushroom Sales?
“Lion’s mane and king trumpet have picked up,” Dillon told us. “Ten years ago, you’d mostly see morels seasonally." Dillon also stated they see an uptick in sales during the holidays when there is more foot traffic. He also sees a growing awareness of the health benefits that mushrooms have.
💬 How Are The Quality of Forest to Fork Mushrooms?
Dillon’s verdict: “Very high quality.” 🙌
Big thanks to Just Food Co-op and Dillon for supporting local growers like us—we’re proud to bring fresh, gourmet mushrooms to your community.
