Extreme heat can be dangerous, and this weekend many communities across the U.S. are facing heat index values over 100°F, with some areas expected to feel even hotter.

This kind of heat can be life-threatening, especially for elderly neighbors, children, outdoor workers, people with health conditions, and anyone without reliable air conditioning.

If you work outside or in a hot workplace, you deserve basic protections. Employers should provide water, rest breaks, shade or cool areas, and a plan to keep workers safe. This weekend, check in on neighbors, coworkers, and loved ones. Stay hydrated, avoid being outside during the hottest parts of the day, and find a cool place if your home is too hot. Public libraries, community centers, and malls can help.
