Our approach is Daoist & post-Western, inspired by the seminary founded by Bonhoeffer in N**i times. Underground Seminary is an alternative socio-historical, theo-psycho-somatic approach to understanding our place in the world. For two years we journey together to locate our ancient identity and to uncover our true vocation (God's voice, call). Our focus is on a rigorous post-colonial critique of
our present systems, a comprehensive survey of human history, intensive character formation, and nurturing intimate and sustainable forms of community life that also heals the planet. The times are perilous with fascism on the rise like a deadly global pandemic. We begin with a recognition that the logic of empire has infected our own body. Jesus' ministry of exorcism and healing is as urgent now as in his time. This internalized logic drives our reactivity, rage, fear, and collapse. Renouncing the logic of empire makes room in our life for the logos (word) of God, that we may live in spirit and in truth. We repent of our collective madness. This process liberates our students to dream, have visions, and be equipped to build life-giving communities wherever God calls us. We become servant disciples who respond to the crisis of the present world with realistic hope, not wishful thinking. We believe that Jesus modeled a way for all to live on mother earth in peace through his mission of village renewal.
