Consider using a longer dry fly leader. Most proficient technical dry fly anglers are known to add additional tippet to their standard 9' leader or purchase a longer, small-diameter tapered leader. These long leaders are imperative for fishing flat water in fisheries such as Silver Creek, Missouri River, Henry's Fork, New Zealand, spring creeks, and tailwaters.
Some of the long, small-diameter, leader benefits include:
* Longer leaders are usually smaller in diameter; therefore they land softer.
*Your fly will be presented with a more natural drift.
*Long leaders allow you to be further from your targeted fish.
Remember your first cast is the most important so take your time and make it a good one!
What is your favorites section of river to fish? Riffles, Run, Pool, Tailout, Eddy or Pocket Water?
Riffle - Fast moving water. Ankle to knee water depth (1-3' depth).
Run - Knee to waist deep water that is directly below a riffle (3-6' depth). Water becomes deeper with uniform currents.
Tailout - Shallow area at the end of a pool before water spills over into another riffle.
