Some permissions for you all as we enter into the evening of today:
- Denial and numbing out is protective. It allows us to get the kids fed and off to school, get ourselves into work and keep the routine going while the impact of the shock is absorbed. Obviously we don’t want to keep it around so long it becomes problematic, but it’s okay for today, for tomorrow, or even for the week.
- Turning off the news - and more importantly - your news notifications (including “snoozing” any news sites that happen to pop up in your social media feed) is not only helpful, it’s vital to protect your nervous system. Staying “informed” doesn’t change anything, it just stresses us out.
- Connecting with those who are precious and allowing ourselves some brief moments of gratitude and appreciation helps bring our heart back into coherence.
- Soaking your feet in hot water before bed - perhaps with a few drops of lavender - will aid sleep. You need it.

It’s ok to admit things are hard. Sometimes admitting that things are not ok is the first step in making things better.

Sometimes we need a reminder….you are AMAZING!

Please join us in welcoming Erik Elsberry, MA, LMFT
Therapist, MN LMFT Board Approved Supervisor to the Authentic Roots Therapy family!
Hello, I am Erik! I find that people can be in all sorts of stages in their lives and readiness to change. What matters more is the willingness to explore, be curious, and most likely ask some difficult questions.
For over 10 years, I have been able to meet and learn about humans from all sorts of backgrounds and ages. Much of my experience has been with at-risk youth and their families. Many past clients have identified as LGBTQ. Extensive clinical experience and training working with youth and adults who have experienced significant traumas.
Like most things in life, the process of therapy is non-linear, and can unearth all kinds of discoveries that may have been unexpected. With these things in mind, I approach therapy as your co-pilot, offering random nerdy facts and a healthy dose of humor.
