This stunning scene, Milwaukee: A View of the Inner Harbor at Sunset in 1850, imagines a time when schooners and early steamships crowded the Milwaukee River, carrying grain, lumber, goods, and immigrants through one of the busiest ports on the Great Lakes. The waterfront was the heartbeat of a young city on the rise.
