That year, they began playing Milwaukee music clubs and recorded their first commercial release, the cassette-only “Curiosity Rocks” which featured several songs that topped the charts at the local alternative radio station. The following year saw the release of the “Mammal Insect Marriage” LP, international radio play, and regional gigs in Madison and Chicago.

1985’s “The Day the Music Died” was cited by Spin Magazine as one of the 8 essential precursors to Grunge. For the next two releases, 1987’s “Models” and 1989’s highly influential “Ghostride” they recorded as a duo with Neil playing bass and Jay performing on all other instruments. Mini-tours to the East Coast followed, including New York’s famous CBGB club with Joe Hausch in the drum chair. Music veteran and ace musical instrument tech Rusty Olson was invited to be Couch Flambeau’s live drummer in 1996 and has played every show since.
