Community Development Alliance
The Community Development Alliance (CDA) is an affiliation of community development funders and practitioners that has collaborated for more than a decade on neighborhood improvement efforts in Milwaukee. CDA is currently working on a Collective Affordable Housing Plan with the goal of a quality, affordable home for every Milwaukeean.
Local real estate brokers are coming together to increase the number of first-time home owners in Milwaukee through a special program. CDA’s Teig Whaley-Smith and Michelle Long have details.

With Dr. Martin Luther King at his side, President Lyndon Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act on this date, hours after it was passed by Congress. The law prohibited discrimination in public places, provided for the integration of schools and other public facilities, and made employment discrimination illegal. It was the most sweeping civil rights legislation passed since Reconstruction nearly 100 years earlier.

Today we wish fathers and father figures a happy father's day, including our own Teig Whaley-Smith and Frank Martinez. Teig is also honoring his father, Rick Whaley. Teig got his love of house projects and gardening from his father, who may be in the background in this photo, but was always working to set his kids up for success. Rick was an in-home Early Childhood Educator and then a teaching assistant at MPS. Somehow he still found time to co-author a book on indigenous rights while raising Teig and my sisters. The second picture shows Teig aspiring to be a writer like his dad.
