Electronics and appliances recycling event
Milton Academy invites Town of Milton residents to participate in its commitment to environmental sustainability. In celebration of Earth Day, the school will host an electronics and appliances collection event on Tuesday, April 21, from 2 to 3 p.m., and then 4 to 5 p.m. The school’s community is pleased to open the opportunity to Town of Milton residents. Last year, residents helped the school nearly fill two 30-foot trucks with e-waste.
“Milton Academy maintains a strong institutional commitment to environmental sustainability,” said Heidi Vanderbilt-Brown, Milton’s Chief Financial and Operating Officer. “Appropriate collection and recycling of electronics and appliances helps protect our environment by limiting the release of harmful toxins into the soil, reducing climate emissions, and preserving natural resources. Inviting our Town of Milton neighbors to participate in our e-waste recycling event will make this important effort have an even bigger impact.”
Participants can drop off and recycle unwanted electronics and appliances, including computers and computer parts, flat screen televisions, cell phones, camera/video and audio equipment, microwaves, toasters, and more. A full list of items eligible for drop-off — free of charge — is available on the school’s website at www.milton.edu/recycle. The school asks that Town residents use the noted time windows to avoid congestion with dismissal traffic.
Eco-friendly junk removal companies estimate that e-waste recycling events of a similar nature can divert between one and two tons of e-waste material from landfills.
Town of Milton resident vehicles should enter via the campus’ Chapel Road entrance off of Centre Street and follow signage to the school’s Wolcott House parking spaces near the Robert Saltonstall Gym. Drop-off will be permitted through 5 p.m. (excluding 3 to 4 p.m.) or until the recycling truck is full. Vehicles may exit campus via Academy Road.
