Nicholas was the first Croatian Catholic Parish built in the United States, the first building was an old house that was converted into a church and was dedicated in 1894. It was built to serve the large immigrant Croatian population living in Lawrenceville, Etna and Millvale. Nicholas Church was also built on the North Side, along Route 28, and dedicated in 1901.
