Our founder, J.R. Holt, wanted to add a unique and signature product to enhance his menu. Two years after opening his first restaurant, Mr. Holt had a vision for a variant of a hamburger. It would be a sandwich, a steak sandwich. A sandwich like no one else had ever seen. That day began a long experimental process that lasted three years. Finally, in 1964, it was complete, and Mr. Holt introduced his “masterpiece” menu item.
