πΆπ‘ Every real estate transaction has a Taylor Swift soundtrack... and honestly, some days it's a whole album. π
One minute you're celebrating an accepted offer. The next, you're renegotiating after an inspection, praying the appraisal comes in at value, or reminding your buyer (for the fifth time π
) not to finance a new car before closing.
If you're in real estate, you know every deal has its plot twists, emotional highs, and happy endings... eventually. β€οΈ

π¦ The boxes can wait. These things can't. π‘
Closing day feels like the finish line, but it's really the first day of homeownership. Before you start unpacking, take a couple of hours to knock out these important tasks that can save you time, money, and headaches later.
β
Rekey or replace the exterior locks. You never know who still has a copy of the old keys.
π° Find the main water shutoff, electrical panel, and gas shutoff. Knowing where they are before an emergency can make all the difference.
π¬οΈ Replace the HVAC filter. It's an inexpensive way to protect one of the most expensive systems in your home.
π¨ Test every smoke and carbon monoxide detector, and replace batteries or outdated units if needed.
π§Ό Deep clean while the house is still empty. It's much easier before the furniture arrives.
πΆ Reset garage door codes, smart locks, thermostats, Wi-Fi, and any smart home devices so only you have access.
πΈ Take photos and videos of every empty room. They provide a great record of your home's condition for insurance and future projects.
π‘ Make sure utilities are in your name and learn your trash and recycling schedule.
π¨ Find leftover paint, appliance manuals, and warranty information before they get buried in storage.
A little preparation on day one can make your first weeks of homeownership much smoother.
π Save this checklist for closing day, and share it with someone who's getting ready to buy a home!
