--> History Fort Lauderdale Museum presents Laurence Gartel: From Digital Pioneer to Robotic Painter. Recognized internationally as the “Father of Digital Art,” Laurence Gartel has spent more than five decades at the forefront of the intersection between art and technology. His remarkable career began at an early age. At just 22 years old, his work entered the permanent collection of the Bibliothèque Nationale in Paris, France, and by the age of 25, his artwork had been acquired by MoMA The Museum of Modern Art in New York, establishing him as one of the earliest Artists to embrace the computer as a creative medium. Most recently, he collaborated with Robohood, a company developing advanced robotic painting systems. This exhibition at the History Fort Lauderdale Museum celebrates not only a pioneering Artist whose vision transformed contemporary Art, but also the continuing evolution of human creativity in an age increasingly defined by technology. --> Miami-based artist Hermes Berrío's painting that perfectly captures the fun South Florida summertime, “Fact: There is no Graceful Way to get on a Pool Float" (2020), 96”x80”. Berrío received his BFA from New York University (2005). In recent years, he has participated in group and solo exhibitions around the world for galleries and institutions in USA, Latin America, Europe and Australia. He has also completed a number of murals, with the most recent installations throughout the city of Miami. Berrío has been awarded numerous awards including The Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant in 2018 and 2022, in 2019 he was awarded The Ruth and Harold Chenven Foundation Grant, in 2023 he was the recipient of a South Florida Cultural Consortium Grant, and in 2023 and 2024 the Miami Individual Artist (MIA) Grant. He was a Fountainhead Studio artist resident from 2019 to 2024. He continues to evolve his practice, investigating new processes and mediums, while challenging contemporary expectations with his prodigious compositions.
