There are a lot of different dog training styles and methods out there, and I respect people who take the time to learn and improve their craft. Shaping, luring, capturing, environmental rewards, play rewards, food rewards—there are many proven ways to teach behaviors and build reliability. The one thing I’ll push back on is the marketing claim that you don’t need rewards to train a dog. Learning is driven by consequences, and rewards are a fundamental part of how animals learn. I’ve been training dogs for a long time, and I feel a responsibility to start sharing more free information so dog owners can educate themselves, ask better questions, and make informed decisions for their dogs. My goal isn’t to criticize trainers with different approaches.
