Abhyanga (ahh-bee-ahn-guh) is an ancient form of self-care developed 5,000 years ago in India, using specific base oils and essential oils that harmonize one's bodily constitution (dosha). One of the many ways you can surmise your constitution is by paying attention to the condition of your skin. You will either have a constitution that is primarily Vata, Pitta or Kapha in nature (or a combination
of the doshas). VATA: If your skin tends toward dryness, this is the formula for you. The Vata blend is formulated with sweet, warming + grounding essential oils to balance Vata's cool, rough + dry qualities, especially pronounced in the Fall and early Winter seasons. Cinnamon, geranium, eucalyptus and ylang-ylang are blended to keep you grounded and relaxed while providing much needed moisture and soothing. PITTA: If your skin tends toward redness/sensitivity, this is the harmonizer you are looking for. The Pitta blend is formulated with soothing, cooling + calming essential oils to balance Pitta's hot, sharp + oily qualities, especially pronounced in the hot months of Summer. Soothing clary sage, French lavender, sandalwood and eucalyptus will keep you centered and calm while moisturizing and protecting your skin. KAPHA: If your skin tends to be oily, this is the blend for you. The Kapha blend is formulated with warming, stimulating + invigorating essential oils to balance Kapha's cool, heavy + oily qualities, especially pronounced in the cold, wet seasons of late Winter and early Spring. Just the right amount of rosemary, eucalyptus, cinnamon and clary sage have come together in this blend to keep your spirits high and bright, and to give your skin just the right amount of moisture to keep your skin soft and silky. (You can't make a mistake when choosing which oil is best for you! By anointing our body with these oils daily, we send signals of love, warmth, caring, stability and calm to each and every cell. Simply apply the oil before or after bathing. I prefer to do so after showering: sit comfortably on a towel, take a few slow and deep breaths and apply the oil to your skin, moving in long, smooth strokes over the limbs and in a circular motion over the joints. When you get to the belly, move the hands over the stomach, following the path of the large intestine, from right to left. Self-massage is a beautiful practice that can take as little as 5 minutes or as long as 15 minutes. Some rituals include bathing your bottle of "abhy" in warm water before use (place in a non-permeable bag before doing so, as to preserve your recyclable label) to warm the oil just a tad, which is oh so comforting in the long months of winter. Apply a small amount of oil to your body, it will quickly be absorbed into your skin, leaving it supple and smooth. Allow oil time to absorb before dressing. Included with a 4 oz. bottle is glass dropper so you can re-apply your special blend throughout the day. When you're on the go you can place the 4 oz. bottle into the muslin sachet provided, and pop it into your bag so you can take your abhy where ever you go (and share the goodness with a friend!). All ingredients are natural, meaning, there are no synthetics involved in the blending of these oils. Always test a small area on the inner wrist to be sure that your body accepts the oils. Please contact me should you have any questions. Do not apply oil to mucous membranes and do not apply over broken/injured areas of skin. Oil is for topical use only. Please keep out of reach of children.
