Florence is fairly far north for being so far east in the Atlantic for being a major hurricane (cat 3 or greater). And history (1851 to present) shows hurricanes and even tropical storms at this position typically recurve into the North Atlantic away from the East Coast of the US. So it's very unusual to think of a potential threat next week to the eastern seaboard from a storm at this location. Regardless of history, the models suggest a threat and residents from Florida to Maine should review their hurricane plan and check their hurricane kit this weekend.
