Nearly 43 years after skeletal remains were discovered in the Florida Everglades, the Broward Sheriff's Office has identified the victim as Shelia Ann Nichols of Decatur, Georgia, and is asking for the public's help solving her homicide. Investigators said Nichols' remains were found in 1983 along U.S. 27, but advances in DNA technology and genetic genealogy recently led to her identification through a match with her father.
Detectives say Nichols disappeared from Decatur in May 1983 and believe someone may now recognize her name or photo and come forward with information about her killing. The Broward Sheriff's Office is continuing to investigate the case and is asking anyone with information to contact detectives.
