Florida now stands on the threshold of a decision that defies the accumulated experience of more than two centuries of public health. In the name of a narrowly individualistic vision of freedom, it risks collective security. This is not an abstract debate: history, epidemiology, and mathematical models all make it clear that without high and sustained vaccination rates, the price will be paid in lives, in suffering, and in millions of dollars.
