Illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing remains one of the greatest threats to marine resources, biodiversity, and the livelihoods of fishing communities around the world.
Today, we recognize the importance of strengthening fisheries management, improving traceability, and promoting compliance with regulations that help protect our oceans and ensure the long-term sustainability of fisheries.
Together, we can support healthy oceans and a more sustainable future for generations to come.

As climate change continues to impact wild fisheries, rising sea temperatures, hurricanes, and declining fish stocks are pushing the Caribbean to rethink how it produces seafood. Aquaculture is now seen as a vital strategy to strengthen food security, support local economies, and reduce dependence on imports.
Countries like Jamaica are leading the way by expanding tilapia farming through initiatives from the National Fisheries Authority, aiming to boost local production and protect natural reef fisheries. Despite these obstacles, aquaculture continues to grow as a promising path toward a more resilient and sustainable food system in the Caribbean.
