e 12, 1963 is the day Mississippi's NAACP field secretary, 37-year-old Medgar Evers, was murdered outside his home in Jackson. June 19, 1964 was the day The Civil Rights Act of 1964 passed Congress, giving Africans equal access and greater voter protections, and outlawing discrimination on the basis of 'race'. We call on all people of color to devote time during the period from May 13 - June 19 to specific action in the pursuit of justice and to honor and demonstrate respect for our history.
