Sunshine, the gorgeous snowshoe who was surrendered sick and pregnant to Miami-Dade Animal Services, is now ready to shine in her forever home!

Sunshine has blossomed into a loving and affectionate companion. She was rescued the day she gave birth, but was having difficulty nursing her babies due to her own weakened state and a severe URI. Her foster diligently bottle-fed her babies until Sunshine was strong enough to take care of them herself, which was luckily only a week later!

This week, Sunshine and her kittens reached an important milestone on their journey to adoption as they underwent sterilization surgeries, received their microchip, got FIV/FeLV tested, and received their final FVRCP vaccine. With her kittens soon ready to start their own journeys, Sunshine eagerly awaits the chance to find her perfect match.

Our team is facing a dire situation as we strive to provide care and support for the most vulnerable felines in our community. When we received a desperate plea for help regarding three extremely sick ginger kittens, we were faced with a heartbreaking dilemma. Despite limited resources and space, after learning that one had already passed away, we made the decision to pick the kittens up. With no plan in place and no available fosters, we sent out plea after plea to our approved fosters. Through sheer determination and the generosity of a compassionate foster, we managed to provide a lifeline for these fragile kittens, though their road to recovery remains uncertain.

As a small but dedicated team of volunteers, we are tirelessly working to respond to the overwhelming demand for assistance during this peak kitten season. With over 20 calls, messages, and emails flooding in daily from Miami and Broward shelters, the demand for support has never been greater. However, our capacity to provide aid is stretched thin, and delays in communication are inevitable as we prioritize the most critical cases.

In light of these challenges, we urge the community to refrain from “kitnapping” healthy neonate or baby kittens and instead wait for their mother to return. The best food for the kittens is their mother’s milk. Remove the kittens only if they are in immediate danger. Quiet, warm, dry kittens are typically fed and cared for and mom cat is just out hunting.

Our focus must remain on those cats and kittens who have no other alternatives and whose survival depends on our intervention. We advise our community not to remove healthy strays from their communities in hopes of finding them a home unless they are able to foster until adoption. While we understand the desire to help, diverting resources to healthy strays jeopardizes the lives of those in urgent need of our care.

Your understanding and respect for our limitations are crucial as we navigate this challenging kitten season. We will continue to make a difference in the lives of these vulnerable animals, but we cannot do it alone. Thank you for your ongoing support and compassion.

Velour, rescued as an orphaned kitten trapped in a car door, and Katy, found in a box with her siblings, have been hand-raised since their earliest days, resulting in their incredibly sweet and social natures.

Velour, lovingly dubbed the ‘golden retriever’ of cats by her foster mama, is outgoing and social, ready to make friends with anyone or anything!
