Today is a day of independence. Following both French and Spanish rule from as early as the 16th century, the island nation of the Dominican Republic declared itself an independent nation from neighboring Haiti in 1844.

Our hearts and prayers go out to the victims, families, and friends of the Michigan State University shooting. As we remember the lives lost in the Marjory Stoneman Douglas shooting 5 years ago today, we recognize that thoughts and prayers are no longer enough. The Phi Gamma Chapter stands and advocates for stronger federal gun control laws and equitable access to mental health care. We stand for those who have lost their lives and those who have lost their loved ones too soon.
