Bahia Honda Sunset Perfection

Bahia Honda State Park in the Florida Keys has always been one of my favorite places to photograph. The Park offers many locations and structures with favorable sun angles at sunrise and sunset to capture an outstanding photograph. This image, "Bahia Honda Sunset Perfection" has been a two-year work in progress! Last year, I was driving west to the Lower Florida Keys in July and noticed the setting sun at an angle favorable for a great sunset image at the West end of the Bahia Honda Bridge. However, I was unable to go back last year to capture an image due to the weather, but this year was different. I remembered that the sun would be at a favorable angle in July and I packed my camera gear and drove to Bahia Honda State Park. I arrived at 6:00 PM, about two hours before sunset and scouted around for a composition. The tide was low and I had a hard time finding a good composition. I set up behind this mangrove bush and was shooting into the sunset. I was not happy with any of the images. Then, a few minutes after the sunset, I noticed the sun's reflection on a building thunderstorm to the north. I quickly repositioned my camera to capture the thunderstorm in the background and the rest is history! The sun's beautiful light is the most important aspect of a sunrise or sunset composition and you never now how it will turn out!! Sometimes perfection and sometimes not!
