Congratulations to Magnus Sodamin on the unveiling of Bletia Purpurea!
Magnus joined us for Bridge Initiative’s residency, where artists explored South Florida’s unique ecosystems through direct experiences in the field—from the Everglades to Biscayne Bay. It’s inspiring to see those connections continue to flourish in public work like this.
Commissioned by the City of Miami Art in Public Places for the Dr. Armando Badia Senior Center, Bletia Purpurea celebrates the pine-pink orchid, a threatened native species found in the pine rocklands and wetlands of the Everglades. Surrounded by vibrant thatch palms, the mural invites viewers into the beauty of South Florida’s subtropical landscapes while highlighting the fragile ecosystems that sustain them.
We love seeing artists use their work to foster a deeper connection to place and inspire stewardship of the natural world. Congratulations, Magnus, on this beautiful addition to Miami’s public landscape. 🌿💗
Memories from a week long painting excursion in South Florida with and We brought 5 painters out to stay at a tropical botanic garden in Miami and ventured into places like an to make paintings to make sense of the area which upon first impression can feel like a tangle of vines strangling flowering trees, and pools of tannic water holding tooothy reptiles and a menagerie of birds and flying insects, but it is a much more serene and wondrous place than that! Follow for a more in depth look at the paintings all of the participating artists created there as we post them in the coming weeks.
