If protein shakes have ever left you bloated, heavy, or simply not seeing the results you expected, the issue might be delivery, not the protein itself.

Protein shakes require digestion before your body can use the amino acids. An amino acid complex bypasses that step entirely because the aminos are already in their usable form. The result is faster, more efficient absorption, less digestive burden, and more direct support for muscle protein synthesis.

We carry a ten-amino-acid complex at RxFormulations where leucine holds the highest concentration, which is exactly what you want for muscle support. It is clean, absorbs well, and for patients who have had stomach issues with protein shakes, it is often a significantly better option.

During perimenopause and beyond, when muscle maintenance requires more active support, the form of protein you choose matters.

There is a version of the compounding pharmacy relationship that most providers have never experienced, one where you send a prescription and the pharmacist already knows what it is, why it was written that way, and how to explain it to your patient without contradicting your clinical reasoning.

At RxFormulations, we have been that pharmacy for providers in Mesa and the East Valley for 23 years. Integrative medicine. Functional medicine. Hormone optimization. Peptide therapy. Thyroid and adrenal support. These are not specialty requests for us. They are the core of what we do every single day.

The providers who work with us consistently tell us the same thing: they stopped spending time managing their pharmacy and started spending it on their patients. That is what the right compounding relationship feels like.

If you are a provider who has spent time finding workarounds for a pharmacy that does not speak your clinical language, we would like to change that.

Creatine has been around for decades, but the conversation around its benefits for women is finally catching up to the evidence.

A 2020 systematic review published in the Journal of Geriatric Physical Therapy confirmed that creatine supplementation combined with exercise is more consistently beneficial in older women than in men, particularly for skeletal muscle strength and lean mass (Stares & Bains, 2020 — DOI). During perimenopause, when estrogen decline accelerates muscle loss and cognitive shifts become more noticeable, five grams a day is one of the more evidence-supported additions to a supplement protocol.

The cognitive angle is real too. Creatine supports ATP production in the brain as well as the muscle, which is why it may help with brain fog and mental stamina on days when sleep was insufficient.

We carry a single-ingredient creatine monohydrate at RxFormulations. Clean, tested, no fillers.

This month we are launching Pharmacy Honest: a 4-part series where Dr. Courtney walks through the supplements we actually recommend at RxFormulations, the clinical reasoning behind each one, and what most patients have never been told. Not trends. Not guesswork. Pharmacy-led thinking from someone who takes these herself.

Part 1: why your multivitamin formula matters more than most people realize.

Most people grab a multivitamin without thinking about whether it actually matches where their body is hormonally right now. Women who are still cycling lose iron through bleeding and need it replaced. Women in menopause no longer have that natural clearance mechanism and are often better served by an iron-free formula.

What surprises most patients: iron and thyroid function are closely connected. Low iron can impair thyroid performance even when a standard TSH looks fine. Supplementing with the right multivitamin for your hormonal stage can quietly close a gap that has been affecting your energy and metabolism without anyone catching it.

If your estrogen patch prescription has been on backorder, you are not alone. The shortage has been affecting patients for months, and for women who rely on transdermal estradiol, the disruption is more than inconvenient. It is a clinical problem.

Here is what most patients do not know: a compounding pharmacy can formulate a transdermal estradiol cream or gel that delivers estradiol through the skin the same way a patch does, preserving the delivery route that matters. The route is not just a preference. It affects how estrogen interacts with cardiovascular markers, liver metabolism, and clotting factors in ways that oral estrogen does not.

Continuity of care should not depend on commercial supply chains. At RxFormulations, we work with your provider to keep your protocol on track regardless of what is or is not available commercially.

Before you start a thyroid prescription, this is worth hearing from a pharmacist's perspective.

Fatigue, sluggishness, and unexplained weight gain are common reasons physicians reach for thyroid medications like levothyroxine. And sometimes that's the right call. But sometimes the thyroid isn't the root issue, and starting a medication without addressing what's actually driving the symptoms means the underlying problem stays unresolved.

At RxFormulations, we look at the full picture. There are targeted supplements, including specific vitamins and herbs, that can support and improve thyroid function naturally. MedCaps T3 and T150 are the two products we recommend most consistently, and we've seen meaningful results with both.

If you're experiencing thyroid-related symptoms and want a pharmacy-led conversation before committing to a prescription, we're here for that.
