Half of all home heating fires happen during the months of December - February, mostly because a space heater is placed too close to curtains, bedding, upholstered furniture, or any other object. Space heater fires account for at least 80 deaths a year, making them a fire safety risk in homes and workplaces.

Here are some tips on how to use your space heater safely:
🔥 Place the heater on level ground, not on a table or other surface.
🔥 Establish a 3-foot kid, pet, and object-free zone around the heater, and never put a space heater in a child’s room.
🔥 Don’t use a heater in a workshop or garage near paint, gas cans, or matches.
🔥 Turn it off when you leave the room, the home, or go to bed.
🔥Unplug the heater when it’s not in use.
🔥 Check the cord for damage periodically. If it is damaged, do not use the heater.
🔥 Don’t plug another electrical device or an extension cord into the same outlet as a heater.
