Honored.

It’s the only word that can truly describe how we felt having Army Sergeant Shane Vincent in the room with us today, sharing his story at the Robert Sanford Folds of Honor Golf Tournament.

Before joining the Army, Shane was a professional BMX racer with the opportunity to compete in the 2008 Olympics. Instead, he chose to answer a different calling—to serve his country and protect his family. He enlisted in the Army as a Cavalry Scout, living by the motto, “First in, last out.”

During his deployment to Iraq from 2006–2007, Sgt. Vincent served in more than 300 missions. On May 24, 2007, while conducting a route clearance mission in Mosul, Iraq, he was critically injured by the blast of a 1,500-pound bomb. He suffered numerous devastating injuries, died three times, and spent 10 months in the hospital learning to walk and talk again. Through unimaginable hardship, his faith, resilience, and servant’s heart have remained unwavering.

Today, Shane continues his service by sharing his testimony, serving on the board of Heroes Hope, a nonprofit helping homeless veterans rebuild their lives, and inspiring others—all for the glory of God.

Two of Shane’s three children are Folds of Honor scholarship recipients, making his story a powerful reminder of the families impacted by this incredible organization. Hearing firsthand what Folds of Honor means to military families puts into perspective exactly what our campaign supports.

The scholarships we raise money for aren’t just numbers on a page—they are opportunities, hope, and a lasting promise that the sacrifices made by our nation’s heroes will never be forgotten.

Each year, this tournament brings our community together to support an incredible mission—providing educational scholarships to the spouses and children of America's fallen and disabled service members and first responders.

We are especially honored to welcome Army Sergeant Shane Vincent as our guest speaker during Friday's luncheon.

Shane served six years in the U.S. Army as a cavalry scout, living by the motto "First In, Last Out." After sustaining life-altering injuries from a blast in Iraq in 2007, he faced a long road to recovery, relearning how to walk and talk with the unwavering support of his wife, Sharon.

Today, Shane and Sharon are raising their three children of whom are Folds of Honor scholarship recipients. Shane often shares that without Folds of Honor, his children would not have had the same educational opportunities, making his family's story a powerful reminder of why this mission matters.

We are grateful to everyone who continues to support Folds of Honor and look forward to another meaningful day on the course as we honor those who have sacrificed so much for our freedom.

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our friend and coworker, John Sample.

John was a valued member of the Mitchell Distributing family, serving as a forklift driver at our Shannon warehouse since 2014. He will be remembered for his kind heart, dedication, and the positive impact he made on those who had the privilege of working alongside him.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to John's family, friends, and everyone whose life he touched. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

John will be deeply missed, but his memory will remain a part of our Mitchell family forever.
