Culinary Arts Technology It was MCC’s Culinary Arts Program that proved to be transformative.  I’m not lying when I say that coming back to school to MCC probably saved my life because it made me get out of the house and gave me something to do. It gave me purpose and it helped me re-invent my life to live in a more p...

MCC ORIENTATION HELPS STUDENTS START COLLEGE WITH CONFIDENCE. The first day of college can feel less overwhelming when students already know where to go, who to ask for help and what to expect.

That preparation was the focus of Meridian Community College’s second orientation session for the Fall 2026 semester. More than 130 incoming students enrolled in the event, which introduced them to campus services, college employees and other students.

Tiereni White, MCC enrollment support coordinator, said orientation helps students feel ready before classes begin.

“They can put faces with departments and know who they need to go to if they have a question,” White said.

Orientation can benefit recent high school graduates, adults returning to school, and students who already know the Meridian area. White said even those who have visited MCC before may not know all the resources available to them.

The event also gives students a chance to become familiar with campus, meet new people and feel more at home.

“When the first day of school comes, they have been prepared,” White said.

Incoming freshman Olivia Miles attended the session as she prepared to study pre-nursing and play volleyball at MCC.

The Meridian native and Lamar School graduate said her volleyball coach played a major role in her decision to attend MCC. Embrey has played for the coach in club and school volleyball.

“I have had a passion for volleyball ever since I started,” Embrey said. “I just fell in love with it.”

Her interest in nursing began through a health science class in high school. The class allowed her to learn about health careers and shadow people working in the field.

“I really loved it, and it made me want to go into nursing,” she said.

For students such as Embrey, orientation offers more than information. It provides an early connection to the people and places that will be part of their college experience.

MCC will host additional Fall 2026 orientation sessions Aug. 5 and Aug. 14. Students may attend the session that works best for them, and walk-ins are welcome.
