Back Home Down South is a southern art exhibition opening next Sunday at 2pm at the Patton House & Gallery () in Jackson, Mississippi. The show is on view June 14th through July 14th.

This exhibition encompasses my work alongside Christy Meshel’s as we explore our upbringing in Mississippi and what it means to make your home here. What do you have to do, know, and experience to be a true Mississippian? I’m a proud Mississippian, but it took me a while to get to a place of appreciation for my state instead of constant criticism. My goal is to help southerners see themselves and their experiences in the work and evoke a sense of pride. I also want outsiders to look and see the beauty that Mississippi has to offer outside of the trends and stereotypes of how it’s depicted.
