Queen Victoria is dressed in her mourning attire and visiting Jean’s Restaurant, inviting everyone to Mourning at Merrehope during the month of October. She is Brainstorm Creative Group’s entry in the Illuminations Center for Dyslexia Scarecrow Competition.

“Mourning at Merrehope” comes alive the entire month of October with this most unique tour.

All month long you can experience the period of mourning set by Queen Victoria. This period began in 1861 after the loss of her husband Prince Albert and was embraced throughout Europe and the Americas as the proper way to mourn.

The second floor of Merrehope is staged as a family living in the home would have prepared it during a period of grief.

Hours: Tuesday - Saturday l 10AM to 3PM
Admission: $10 l $5 for Students
Includes a full tour of Merrehope, a magnificent 20 room Neoclassical Revival Mansion - circa 1859.

“MOURNING MONDAY” is a one-time only presentation.
Monday, October 30th 5:30-7:30pm
It will be “A MOURNING HISTORY PRESENTATION & EXHIBIT” presented by Erin Lybrand. Erin is a Funerary Historian specializing in history and preservation of funeral memorabilia and procedures from the past. Some of the items in her collection are going to AMAZE you. Attendees can also tour the full exhibit on the second floor of Merrehope and even sample period correct funeral delicacies.
