Valley Performance Physical Therapy
Neck pain at work isn’t always a posture problem. 👇
Many people assume their neck pain is caused by sitting “wrong.”
But in reality, there are often several factors contributing to discomfort.
Three of the most common:
✅ Staying in the same position for too long
Even a great posture can become uncomfortable if you hold it for hours.
✅ Stress and tension
Many people carry stress in their neck and shoulders without realizing it.
✅ Weakness and poor endurance
If the muscles that support your neck, shoulders, and upper back aren’t conditioned for long periods of sitting, they can fatigue more easily.
The good news?
Small changes can make a big difference.
Take movement breaks.
Change positions regularly.
Build strength.
Manage stress.
Your body generally responds better to movement and variety than perfection.

Rest is important… but COMPLETE rest is often where recovery gets stuck. 👇
One of the most common things we hear is:
“I stopped doing everything because I didn’t want to make it worse.”
And while short-term rest can absolutely help calm things down, too much rest for too long can actually lead to:
• more stiffness
• more weakness
• lower tolerance to activity
• and even more fear around movement
For many injuries and pain conditions, the body responds best to gradual, guided movement — not complete shutdown.
The goal is usually not:
🚫 “Do nothing”
It’s:
✅ “Find the right amount of movement your body can tolerate and build from there.”
