On November 10, 2013 an application was submitted to the FCC for a Construction Permit for a non commercial, low power, FM radio station license in Mena, AR. On February 10, 2014 the FCC granted a Construction Permit to Community Radio, Inc. to build a a non commercial, low power, FM radio station in Mena, AR and operate at 100 Watts ERP on 95.5 MHz. as requested. On February 18, 2014 the call letters KAWX-LP were granted. In 2022 The FCC issued a Construction Permit to Community Radio, Inc. to build a full power non commercial radio station to operate on 89.3 FM. On January 31, 2022 KAWX-LP ceased operating as a LPFM station on 93.1 FM. On February 1, 2023 KAWX began operating on 89.3 FM. Addition work in underway on the "new" KAWX and will be completed by April 2023. On January 29, 2015 the IRS issued 501(c)(3) status to Community Radio, Inc. KAWX-LP began broadcasting on February 1, 2015 at 12:00 AM by the authority of our FCC Construction Permit. An application for a license to replace the construction permit was filed with the FCC on February 2, 2015 and an amended application was filed on February 3, 2015. The FCC license for KAWX-LP was issued by the FCC on February 9, 2015. KAWX added a translator (repeater) in Hatfield AR on 94.9 FM July 3, 2019. The translator was relocated to to Mena, AR on December 31, 2021. was granted a Construction Permit by the FCC on December 22, 2021 to build a full power FM Radio Station on 89.3 MHz. Construction will start after and only after the necessary funding is in hand. The Construction Permit expires in December of 2024.
