Doc wasn't just known for his incredible trumpet playing. Viewers also looked forward to seeing what he'd wear next. His bright, flashy jackets and bold outfits became almost as famous as his music.

Here's a fun fact: Severinsen gave his first public performance at just seven years old and was playing professionally while still a teenager. By the time he joined The Tonight Show, he was already one of the country's most respected jazz musicians.
