GREY BLENDING...with a demi

I learned about the concept of using a demi color to blend greys years ago from David Velasco..loved learning from David...he was a life saver for me when I was not in an environment where I was learning ANY theory 😳

Back then, the concept was to use a demi color that wouldn't shift the base but would give the greys a bit of a blonde color

But demis have changed quite a bit since I 1st heard him talk about it. Now we have alkaline demis as well as acidic demis.

An alkaline demi WILL shift the natural base, deposit a bit deeper into the cortex and a bit more opaque.

An acidic demi, (typically), will not shift the natural base, will not go as deep into the cortex, and tends to be a little more translucent.

What he shared worked very well with acidic..it also works really well with alkaline, EXCEPT you need to be prepared for warmth that will be exposed.

Either way works great. You just have to formulate the tone you choose a bit differently.

Here, we used an alkaline demi 8G on natural salt & pepper hair... one with 5 vol, 10 vol and 20 vol so you can see what happens to both the grey AND the pigmented hair (these result are predictable once you know your chem 🙌)
