For the 7th year in a row, HBG Design’s San Diego office partnered with Fred Finch Youth & Family Services through our annual KBCI initiative ❤️

Over two volunteer workdays in May, 17 HBG team members helped refresh the interiors of two residential cottages at Fred Finch’s Dual Diagnosis Youth Center in Lemon Grove, CA — transforming the spaces into brighter, calmer, and more welcoming environments for the youth who call them home.

The project brought last year’s “Creative Expression & Empowerment” concept one step closer to reality and marks another chapter in a partnership that began in 2019.

One of our favorite moments? Hearing residents say:

We were honored to connect with architect and professor Doug Campbell’s Design Management students at Western Michigan University as part of their recent exploration of Gun Lake Casino Resort in Wayland, Michigan.

Prior to their tour of the new hotel tower and Wawye Oasis, Doug reached out to our team for design insight and design thinking behind the project. We were excited to share how our approach shaped key priorities—from the engineering strategies to the guest experience to operational flow—and helped bring the vision to life. Following their tour, the students produced incredibly thoughtful reflections on what they learned. Hearing how strongly they connected with the design intent, and how enthusiastically they responded to the many priorities our team explored and accomplished, was truly rewarding.

Gun Lake Casino is a remarkable project and a meaningful source of inspiration in the region. We’re grateful to have been part of their learning journey and appreciate the opportunity to share our work with the next generation of designers.
