“The Gospel According to Ned” was inspired by the iconic Good Times episode that challenged what holiness is supposed to look like. In this piece, God is not hanging on a cross. God is a Black woman watching over the room. Present. Regal. Divine.
Cotton blooms anyway. Ancestors linger anyway. The color refuses to whisper.
My signature dots represent the known and unknown ancestors whose lives continue shaping my hands, my vision, and my becoming.
A moment of me speaking about the pieces in this dynamic exhibition. I have rarely shared my thoughts outside of a post on social media so it was refreshing to have this conversation in real time and in person.
