Good Afternoon, yesterday morning prior to prayer I had a dream.
In that dream, I was working at a job where I finally got promoted. It didn't happen the way I thought, but I was grateful. I was getting discouraged because I felt no matter how hard I tried, I was never going to be good enough.
The morning I got the news, they wanted me to start immediately. I got in my car and turned on the GPS. At first, I was on the highway with everyone else. Other cars sporadically passed by and I was happy because we hadn't turned toward the sun yet. it was dark.
Suddenly, I had to turn right down a single road. It was just me, and I thought. "It's ok, once I get to where I'm going it should be light. It won't be dark for long." Then I noticed I was alone, and I looked back to where everyone else was and wished I was back on that road. I remembered thinking there has to be another route except I was on a one-way and couldn't turn back. I'd gone beyond the point of turning back. It got darker and darker and I woke up.
Once I woke up, I noticed that the more afraid I became, the darker the road became. When I had no fear, it was only the dark of the dawn and I could see the sunlight around the horizon. I also noticed that the street where everyone else was wasn't lighter than my street, it was just a comfort to have other headlights around me. I talked about it in the prayer session and my hope is that if I have that dream again (as I often do) I hope to see the dream through and not allow the darkness to cause me to fear my way out of a promotion.
We often are afraid because the future seems dark, and we can't see where we are going. We can only see in front of us. We allow fear to cause the atmosphere to be darker than it really is. Fear can also block our vision so much we miss the sunrise.
What's the point? Don't allow fear to cloud your vision. Don't be afraid to take a single road because there are times when God will have you on a single road.
It's not a punishment! It's done to get your attention. It's done because there are some things that are just meant for you. It's done so that you are not distracted by others around you. It's done to test your faith and strengthen your faith. It's done so that not only you but others can see the work of the Lord in your life. It only becomes darker and drearier when fear is allowed to make things worse than they are.
Fear? But I don't feel afraid you say, sometimes fear is not a feeling. Most times fears are the thoughts that come up to stop you from making moves. I call them the what-ifs and those alone will drive you crazy if you allow them. Do statements like these come up? If I don't see something good soon then I'm turning around. I can't see where this road is going there's no way I'm going to keep going on a road where I can't see anything. Let me say it like this. If no one buys my books, tickets, music, etc then it's not meant for me and I'm not going to keep doing this. If my family/friends don't support me then maybe it's not meant for me to do anything. If I do this live and no one shows up then I'm not going to do this anymore.
I know it may not sound like fear and may sound quite logical, but it's not. It's fear disguised as good advice. Don't get me wrong, it doesn't mean you're not loved or cared for, but if we allow the fear of others to become our fear then we never go anywhere. Hence being on the road alone. Good intentions and all will cause you to miss what's meant for you and I'm sorry never paid anyone only filled them with regrets.
Shifting your focus is key to seeing the end result even when it seems to be dark all around you. Your mind helps you see what is good and what's bad all in the same motion. It's up to you what the bigger picture will be. What you focus on becomes bigger. Let's talk about it in September.
