2 Peter is a letter traditionally attributed to the Apostle Peter. It was written to encourage believers to remain faithful to Jesus Christ, grow in spiritual maturity, and guard against false teachers.

Chapter 1: Grow in Christian Character

Peter reminds believers that God has given them everything they need for a godly life through their knowledge of Jesus Christ. He encourages them to develop qualities such as:

Faith
Goodness
Knowledge
Self-control
Perseverance
Godliness
Brotherly affection
Love

Peter also affirms the truth of the gospel, explaining that he personally witnessed Jesus' glory and that Scripture comes from God through the Holy Spirit.

Chapter 2: Beware of False Teachers
Peter warns that false teachers will arise among believers. These individuals:
Spread destructive teachings.
Exploit people for personal gain.
Lead others into sin.

He points to examples from history where God judged wickedness but rescued the faithful, showing that God knows how to both judge evil and save those who belong to Him.

Chapter 3: The Lord's Return
Peter addresses people who mock the promise of Christ's return. He explains that God is not slow in keeping His promises; rather, He is patient, giving people time to repent.

"With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day." (2 Peter 3:8)

Peter teaches that the "Day of the Lord" will come unexpectedly. Because of this, believers should live holy and godly lives while looking forward to God's future kingdom.
