📸💙 Sometimes the best moments aren’t planned.

This wasn’t a meeting. It wasn’t a ceremony. Just a simple moment as members of our Property & Evidence and Crime Scene Investigations (CSI) teams gathered together. sharing ideas, conversations, and a few laughs.

Moments like these are a reminder that while sworn officers are often the faces of the Melbourne Police Department, it takes an entire team to keep this agency moving. 🚔 Our civilian professionals work behind the scenes every day, processing evidence, supporting investigations, assisting officers, and helping ensure justice is served. 🧩

These are just a few of the faces you may never see, but their dedication makes a difference every single day. We’re proud to recognize the people behind the scenes who help make our mission possible. 💙👏

We are incredibly grateful for the thoughtfulness and generosity of the Bexley Box and the Walmart team! Today, we received a donation of a Bexley Box™, a powerful initiative founded by Kirsten Bridegan. These thoughtfully assembled kits are filled with essentials and comforting items to support children in crisis situations.

What an impactful resource to have at our department! In moments of uncertainty, Bexley Box ensures children are met with care, dignity, and compassion. Thank you for helping us create a more supportive and human-centered experience for children during their most difficult moments.

🚨 TRAFFIC HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION UPDATE 🚨

MELBOURNE, FL - The Melbourne Police Department has provided an update regarding the fatal vehicle crash that occurred on April 30, 2026, at the intersection of S. Babcock Street and University Boulevard.

The initial incident involved a Ford F350 crossing the median and striking a 2016 Kia Soul. Tragically, the 22-year-old driver of the Kia Soul, Alcenta Castro-King of Palm Bay, succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.

Following an extensive, months-long investigation by the MPD Traffic Enforcement Unit, which included detailed reviews of forensic evidence, video footage, and witness interviews, probable cause was established to secure an arrest warrant.

Suspect: Cody Nicholas Harrington (19, of Palm Bay, FL)
Charges: Vehicular Homicide and DUI Manslaughter

On July 6, 2026, Harrington turned himself in at the Brevard County Jail, where he was booked on the active warrants.

Our continued thoughts and deepest condolences remain with the family and loved ones of Ms. Castro-King during this difficult time.
