Hello CPC,
Pastor Barry again.
In case you missed Sunday’s announcement (or my last post), tonight at 7 we are having a family “roundtable discussion” in response to the recent events in our nation.
We have set up some couches on stage, and I will moderate a conversation with some men and women who all love Jesus deeply, occupy a variety of cultural spheres, are committed to productive dialogue, and bring different insights to the table.
Whereas Sunday focused more on the sovereignty of God, tonight we will focus more on human responsibility. The church has a mission; how should that mission interact with politics and culture?
This is not intended as a discussion of all things political, nor is it delivering any sort of official CPC position on anything. Nobody on the panel speaks authoritatively for CPC, and (probably) panel members will not all see things exactly the same way. The intent is to process recent events together in a way that models productive dialogue, seeks wisdom through a multitude of counselors, and helps us to think and act in a way that glorifies God.
If you have a question you would like to see addressed, we will provide a digital means of doing so once you arrive. This event will not be livestreamed.
Let me close by reiterating 2 thoughts I shared previously.
First—for those who wonder if this might become the “wrong kind” of political: lean in with hope. I believe that the Lord is in this, and that the greater risk is to not talk about the hard things. This actually has the potential to become one of those special “family times” where the body comes together to love and care for one another. I anticipate that will be the case, that it will go well, and that it will contribute to encouragement, unity, and healing. Be in prayer for this.
Second—for those who have other plans: if you can’t make it, don’t worry about it. But if you have the ability to reschedule your plans, coming tonight might be worth your while.
Thanks CPC!
I love you.
Be expectant! God’s goodness has not been cancelled. He is writing an epic story.
Grace to you,
Pastor Barry
