🚨 APRIL SHOULDER MONTH! (New series where we post videos about a specific body part for the month). Catch us every week!
Here’s Rachel on how Pulleys are used to regain range of motion after surgery!
The non-surgical arm helps to move the surgical arm into different directions, depending on what movements are cleared by the surgeon (flexion, scaption, abduction, functional internal rotation).
Common mistakes that we see are a shoulder shrug or a lateral trunk lean away from the surgical arm. You want to maintain upright posture and minimize shoulder shrugging while performing this exercise.
Pulleys are not only used for post-operative patients, but for any patient that has a range of motion restriction. Online shops (such as Amazon) sell personal-use pulley systems that can be hooked into a doorframe, which allows patients to purchase them for home use.
Please see a trained professional if you are recovering from surgery or a shoulder injury before using pulleys, to determine that it is appropriate for your case.
Come back Friday for more shoulder videos! Next month is knees!
