We are very excited to announce that Darren Ayar will be joining the TFN team! Darren has interned with us for over a year (no easy feat), accumulating knowledge and putting his experience into practice. Darren is kind, thoughtful, and goes above and beyond in his mission to help you build strength, move better and train with purpose. Spot the Next Fitness Trend

Have you ever noticed that fitness trends always follow the same cycle? There is a new innovation/discovery (or rediscovery) that gets people excited. This one thing will fix everything! All failures are because we haven’t been doing this new thing! Goodbye difficulty, hello success and ease for everyone; always!

As I’m sure you can guess, the initial excitement wears off. Limitations to the method are found, and it becomes trendy to write and talk about how the new thing is actually BAD. It hurts your fitness and doing it is the epitome of stupidity!

Then comes the last phase when sensible minds prevail, and it’s realized that the new thing is good in some situations, but not others, and it provides some benefits, but isn’t a panacea. Then here comes a BRAND NEW THING!

This cycle is funny to watch because it happens over and over again. From the Zone diet to CrossFit to Kinesiotape to Cold Tubs. They all rise and fall, from hero to villain to something in between. There’s even a name for this cycle, the Gartner Hype Cycle, and it spans industries. It looks like this ā¬†ļø

So the next time you hear a news story, or talk at the water cooler about the NEXT NEW THING THAT WILL CHANGE EVERYTHING, remember this line from famous investor John Templeton-

ā€œThe four most dangerous words in the English language are, ā€˜This time, it’s different.ā€™ā€
