Esthetician friends, don’t come at me! I still believe you should wear sunscreen. Trust me, I have paid more money than I would like to admit on reversing years of tanning beds and lying out and frying in the sun! 🥴🫠

BUT…

If you are blonde and use sunscreen with Avobenzone and Octocrylene- beware! These two offenders are known to cause permanent color damage to extensions as you see in this video. It is a known fact that they cause a chemical reaction with hair extensions. Lesser known facts are Octocrylene is damaging to marine life. And Avobenzone can react with any chemically processed blonde.

So if you find your hair goes brassy in the summer- don’t blame it all on the pool, salt water and sun. It may be your sunscreen! Consider switching to a mineral base or tying your hair back and leaving it up until the SPF is totally rinsed and removed from your face and hair.

Personally, I use Soleil Toujours which has a low dose of Avobenzone- I wear my hair in a pony or bun when it’s on my neck, back and shoulders and I’ve never had an issue.

You invest so much into your hair. Invest in a high quality sunscreen that won’t trash your hair or the ocean. 🌊
